Media Experience.
Throughout my time at University I have taken part, and completed a range of different media experiences. These have played a key part in my University career. It helped me harness my skills, and use the knowledge gained from my University degree, and apply it to whatever professional setting I was in. Below I will go through each.
Stretford Paddock.
Stretford Paddock is a Manchester United based fan channel, who share their content via youtube. Whilst only a recent endeavour, I'm with Paddock for 8 weeks. Even though I have only done 4 weeks so far, I have gained experience in Proffesional level editting, mixing videos (mainly podcats) and invaluable knowledge in Photoshop and the importance of a thumbnail. Paddock opened my eyes to real life journalism, showing where the skills I've gained over the last 3 years can be used. It's a really exciting opportunity, and I cannot wait to continue!
ITV Granada.
Before University I did 3 days with ITV Granada reports. The three days I completed consisted of chopping up clips to go into a final package, researching, making phone calls with potential interviewees and assisting interviews with proffesional cricketers. evidently, it was a short lived experience, but it birthed a desire in me to be a journalist. The joy of creating news that people find engaging or enlightening was exciting, and ultimately what pushed me to study Broadcast Journalism at the University of Salford.
Salford Sport TV.
Salford Sport TV was a student led organisation, founded by my good Friend Bix Williams, that covers the student sports societies each week. Throughout my time, I helped commentate, film and edit. What I enjoyed most about Salford Sport TV was that it was a fun way to learn and build upon what we had been taught in the lectures. A lot of it I was unaware of, such as camera operating skills, but after a few attempts I became more and more equipped. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, one that not only provided me with journalistic skills but also incredibly fond memories.
Shock Radio.
During my 2nd year of University me and a friend previously mentioned, Lewis Speed, co-hosted a radio show. The show didn't always revolve around news, but rather drifted into lifestyle journalism and was often simply a light hearted fun show. We both love Politics, but felt we wanted to try and have a show that wasnt really political and rather simply fun. Co-hosting the show was a privilege, and taught me a lot about the intricacies of live broadcast. Something I'd love to get back into in the coming years.
